Ironwood Golf Course, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Gainesville, Florida. The course is owned by the City of Gainesville and operated by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs.
Ironwood Golf Course first opened for play in 1964. The course was designed by David Wallace.
The course was carved from a scenic landscape covered with century-old pines and sparkling lakes. The golf course will keep you guessing with interesting twists and turns. The elevated greens have dramatic drops from front to back, making them a challenge to read. There are strategically placed bunkers throughout Ironwood Golf Club, as well as thick rough along the fairways. The obstacles combined with some tricky doglegs will make you choose your clubs carefully. Strategy, not strength, is the key to doing well on this course.

Considering the shape this course was in just 3 or 4 years ago, it's now a joy to play. The layout has always been a bit of a challenge, especially the back 9. The greens, although generally slow, are usually in decent shape, the fairways are mostly in good shape although a couple holes on the back still get watered down fairly easily. Usually play the Blues/tips but still not overly long and the rough this time of year is inconsistant, some places really tough and others almost non-existant.

course is definately in better condition than it used to be, but the price for srudents is still a little steep, I can play at a nicer golf course in gainesville for a cheaper price. It is a city owned golf course and is not the best course in the city, but it is priced up there with the better ones like Meadowbrook and Turkey Creek.
